Over the last four years protesting has remained under fire, seeing a particular crackdown across Australian university campuses. Over 40 civil society groups including The Human Rights Law Centre have joined to oppose actions by universities to restrict student and teacher protests and political speech.
The collective has released a statement calling on Australian universities to protect the right to peaceful protest and dissent pointing to international law and the role of higher education as spaces for democratic participation.
